IAP membership is for practising IT professionals with a proven track record. There are five grades of membership; your grade will depend on training, qualifications and experience, which we measure using a unique points system.
You need 150 points, including at least 100 in Analysis and/or Programming combined gained from courses of formal study and examination approved by the Institution. Typically this requirement is equivalent to the first two years of a good relevant degree.
You need 250 points, including at least 200 in Analysis and/or Programming combined gained from courses of formal study and examination approved by the Institution. Typically this requirement equates to a relevant honours degree.
You need 350 points, including at least 200 in Analysis and/or Programming combined. The balance may be made up with further points gained in Analysis, Programming, Business and related disciplines. Typically these requirements mean a relevant honours degree plus a year’s post graduate experience, or four years’ experience.
You need 700 points, including at least 400 points in Analysis and/or Programming combined, and at least 50 points in Business. The balance may be made up with further points gained in Analysis, Programming, Business and related disciplines. Typically these requirements mean a relevant honours degree plus four years’ experience, or eight years’ experience.
Outstanding professionals who exceed the requirements for Member by a substantial margin, and who have spent a considerable part of their working life in positions of substantial responsibility, may be considered by the Council for promotion to the Institution’s most senior grade.
