DEV CAFE RENDEZVOUS

Our Dev Cafe, June 2024, saw a group of IAP members who work from home, and some in the office, get together for a quick chat over the virtual coffee pot.

From Orkney in Scotland to Vietnam, they took timeout for a short 30-ish minute coffee (or tea) break.

One of the main discussions was around Open Source code and routines, that can come and go without warning. An example given was a company that had used a small piece of Open Source code that actually underpinned their whole system, the code was removed and disaster struck, the whole system crashed.

Flavours of programming were discussed, and the merits of all we have, and the different types of programmers, including whether a non trained person, who creates a game for a mobile device that sells a million copies, is actually a software developer. This led to one of our members, Luc in Vietnam, compare different types of programmers to different types of cheese. Love them or hate them, they are what they are.

We hold our Dev Cafe Rendezvous at 11am UK time, on the first Thursday of every month. All are welcome!
