VSJ – April 2002 – Members’ News

IAP Consultants’ Register

You’ll find a CD with this month’s VSJ that contains data about all IAP members who have asked to be included in our Consultants’ Register. In the past, we’ve always issued this as a printed document and sent it on request to whomever has approached us looking to employ an IT specialist consultant.

However, there are now so few potential employers who cannot read material in electronic form that we decided the time had come to drag ourselves kicking and screaming into the 21st (well, 20th) century. In any case, we can always provide a printed version on request (which we had to do for one enquirer only last month, as it happens).

Nevertheless, we are sympathetic to the view that some users may not themselves be particularly technically competent or have sophisticated database software. So we’ve deliberately kept things very simple. There is a PDF file that contains the data in a form equivalent to the old printed book, so anyone with Acrobat Reader can use it. A second, Excel, file provides the same data but in a form that allows for more sophisticated searching and selection. Details of the macro and file layouts are contained in the readme file.
