AI. WHAT DO YOU KNOW?

The significance and presence of AI in our lives continues to grow.

In February 2024 the UK’s Office for Artificial Intelligence became part of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology: www.gov.uk/DSIT.

 

Here are 5 AI nuggets from the DSIT:

•   Some of the aims of the UK Government’s investment in AI (August 2024) is to reduce train delays, speed up NHS prescriptions and train construction workers.

•   Teachers and tech will come together to develop more reliable and trustworthy AI tools. Whilst AI is marking homework, teachers can spend more time teaching.

•   Surveys reveal that people feel the most useful AI applications are using footage to detect crime and diagnosing a patient’s illness.

•   The largest estimated increase in AI will be in the health and social care sector due to high demand (an ageing population) and robotics that can complement human labour (rather than substitute it).

•   There isn’t agreement on what intelligence is! Some argue that AI is not intelligent at all. As it evolves, so will our definition…
