BECOME A TRUSTEE

The IAP is a small charity with great dreams. We have the cream of software developers in our ranks. Our vision is to improve software for society by being the leading professional body for those aspiring to and engaged in creating, developing and maintaining software. By promoting the importance of trustworthy software to the public while ensuring that our members adhere to the highest professional standards and our code of conduct, we are committed to the development of the profession. It has an international reputation for education, high standards and the calibre of its members.

The IAP are looking for applicants who would value the prestige of the Trustee role and title and who are interested in making a commitment to help steer and shape the future of the IAP.

About the Trustee Role

We would value applications from candidates who are trustworthing and have enthusiasm, dedication and determination. Please note this is a voluntary role.

Trustees represent the IAP, its vision, goals and values, both publicly and in governance decisions, as well as contributing to the wider governance of the charity and ensuring that we are working in alignment with our mission.

All Trustees are collectively responsible for contributing to the overall strategy and direction of the IAP, attending quarterly board meetings, and providing guidance on funding decisions and project outcomes. Trustees are deemed to accept and follow the Nolan Principles (The Seven Principles of Public Life).

Most Trustees will be members of the IAP, but up to three Lay Trustees can be appointed who are not drawn from the ranks of the IAP, but have other skills that would benefit the institution. In particular, we would welcome applicants who have skills in fundraising, finance, marketing, human resources, social media and the law.

Other Trustees would have experience in one or more fields of AI, Data Science and Quantum Computing for example, would be welcome, as these areas fields are of current concern.

Meetings are held online four times a year, with the AGM normally held on the morning of a Trustee board meeting. Trustees may be invited to serve on several different committees.

Skills We Are Looking For In A Trustee

– Strong communication and interpersonal skills

– Ability to work collaboratively and contribute effectively in a team setting

– Experience in fields of AI, Data Science and Quantum Computing OR

– Experience in fundraising, finance, marketing, human resources, social media and law

– The ability to understand budgets and financial reports.

Volunteer

If you would prefer to assist us on an ad-hoc basis or work on specific projects perhaps you would consider becoming a volunteer. We’re particularly interested in people who can contribute articles and share news about their specialist skills or recent developments in their particular field. Please note volunteering is on a voluntary basis.

Skills We Are Looking For In A Volunteer

– Strong communication and interpersonal skills

– Ability to work collaboratively and contribute effectively in a team setting

– Experience in administration or membership management

– Experience in fundraising, marketing and social media

– Experience of book keeping and accounts.
