News | Blog Post : WHY STANDARDS ARE SO IMPORTANT
Chinese solar inverters are cause for growing concerns regarding cybersecurity risks.
Europe have growing concerns over the cybersecurity risks posed by Chinese-made photovoltaic inverters. Undisclosed communication devices, so called ‘kill-switch’ components, have been found on Chinese-made solar power inverters. A report warns that a cyberattack could potential destabilize the European grid. Discussion is ongoing about whether or not to restrict high-risk suppliers or possible ban Chinese made solar inverters. Europe is heavily reliant on Chinese solar equipment, hence there is a risk of raised costs and disruption if the supply chain is broken. The European Commission is assessing cybersecurity risks and what the balance should be between energy security and economic considerations.
British Standards Institution (BSI)
This is why upholding industry standards are so important. British technical and industry standards, developed and maintained by the British Standards Institution (BSI), are crucial for several reasons: ensuring product safety, promoting quality, facilitating trade, and driving innovation. They provide a common language for industry, help businesses meet regulatory requirements, and create a framework for knowledge sharing, ultimately benefiting consumers and the economy.
