Replacement System for Horizon

Last week, I was at my local post office and had a chat with the postmaster re the Horizon system. I’ve known him for many years and it was interesting to find that they were still have issues with the Horizon system. What surprised me is that they get little or no support from the support team at Horizon.

You would think, given the issues that have been made public over the last few years that they would make an effort to sort any issue.

The Post Office have a roadmap to 2025 phasing out the legacy “Horizon” platform in favour of a revamped solution that’s optimized for speed and user experience. At this point in time, the name of the new system has not been released

This initiative isn’t just a tech upgrade; it signifies a drive to modernize and align with the dynamic demands of all stakeholders.

In October 2021, for the first time in two decades, the Post Office executed transactions outside the confines of Horizon in a pilot run. The plan is to begin the system-wide rollout in 2023, ramping up the delivery during a transition phase, with an expected completion of 2025. MY local postmaster has just had the tech guys in to see what new equipment is required and where it will be located.

My hope is that, once live, this time, the system is properly supported and this, any issues are considered as system problems and not staff being crooks. Stopping any prosecutions, before they ruin lives, over the profits for the software company and the Post Office.
