IAP Symposium – 2014

The IAP Symposium at Kew on the 8th of April is coming.

We’ve assembled a group of speakers with a huge range of experience and expertise for next year’s symposium on “The Internet of Things”. Here’s a preview:

Dom Guinard, CTO at Evrythng is working on Evrythng’s suite of managed applications to make products smart. These are built in three main areas: tracking, personalization and sales and service, Dom got his PhD at EHT Zurich for his work on the establishment of the ‘Web of Things’. Previously he had worked at MIT’s Auto-ID lab on linking industrial RFID tags to the Web. He has also worked for Sun Microsystems on scalable IoT architectures. In 2012, he was listed 5th among the top 100 IoT thinkers by Postscapes.

Angela Sasse, Professor of Human-Centred Technology at University College, London specialises in human behaviour and technology, information security and computer security. She received her PhD in Computer Science from the University of Birmingham. Prior to joining UCL, she worked as a Human Factors specialist at Philips.

William Webb, CEO at Weightless is currently pioneering Weightless, a new global standard for wireless M2M communications which he was instrumental in designing. He established the standard body and wrote the book “Understanding Weightless”. He has over 20 patents pending or granted for the technology. He was a co-founder and CSO of Neul, a Cambridge start-up established to commercialise Weightless. Prior to this he led the formation of spectrum strategy at Ofcom, He has worked as Director of Corporate Strategy at Motorola and for a wide range of consulting companies. He was recently elected Deputy President of the IET. In 2005 he became one of the youngest Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Adrian Wright, CEO at Secoda Risk Management is currently researching security implications and techniques in the IoT space. He is also a member of the IoT Working Group at the Digital Policy Alliance. He was previously Director of Projects at ISSA-UK and remains a Board member and VP of Security Research. For nearly 9 years, he was Global Director of Information Security at Thomson Reuters.
