VSJ – October 2008 – Members’ News

We welcome two Fellows who have recently been elected.

Jeffrey Tyrrell  BSc (Hons) LLM MBA

Jeffrey is a solicitor who started out in 1977 specialising in technical disputes.  Rising to become Managing Partner of his firm he then branched out into the management of change; this is where he has built his career, particularly in enterprises where business and technology are closely interleaved. Jeffrey has a track record of successfully delivering multi-million pound change programmes in major organisations.  He has wide and in depth experience of both the business and IS environments, and lectures extensively in these fields.  Specific assignments as Interim Manager for change (since 1994) have included British Power and Energy (Chief Business Architect); Montague Private Equity (Project Director); National Grid (IS Strategy Manager); Centrica (Programme Manager, IS Improvement Programme); Telewest (Programme Manager, Business Transition).

Tom Jones  BSc MSc PhD

Tom Jones is an academic who has spent his life teaching mathematics, computing and related subjects.  His professional qualifications are too many to list here, but his BSc(Hons)(First Class) in Oceanography, Meteorology and Astronomy was followed by an MSc in Software Technology (with Distinction) and in 1993 a PhD in Meteorology.  Tom then took up a teaching career, initially at the Peterhead Academy, where he became Principal Teacher of Computing and ICT, remaining until 2001.  Since then he has run his own company providing IT consultancy, management and training services to Education and Industry.  He also has a wide range of part-time professional commitments; he has for example provided ICT training courses to the Royal Air Force and the Scottish Prison Service.  A man of many interests, Tom was once a contestant in “Brain of Britain”.
